History of the resort
This world famous resort was created in the early 20th century and has continued to improve its ski area ever since. You will undoubtedly be seduced by its authentic and typically Savoyard charm. Despite the development of its domain, and unlike other resorts, Val d’Isère has remained a village and kept its authentic charm. You will therefore find, mixed between the luxury shops and local restaurants, many chalets and apartments, in wood and stone, to spend your holidays.
In addition of being a welcoming tourist resort, Val d’Isère is also a sports and Olympic resort, having hosted several ski events since the Olympic Games in Albertville in 1992. Many times ranked among the best resorts in the world, Val d’Isère will seduce the most athletic among you with its vast ski area which extends over more than 300km² and close to 2000 meters of altitude. The ski area which, with its neighbour Tignes, forms one of the largest ski areas in the world : The Espace Killy.

An interesting FACT of Val d’Isere
The Espace Killy was named in honor of Jean-Claude Killy : an eminent skier, multiple Olympic champion, who grew up in Val d’Isère. He was part of the Organising Committee for the 1992 Albertville Olympic Games and carried the Olympic flame to all the Tarentaise ski resorts, including Val d’Isère.
